Mixed fortunes shadowed HAU’s volleyball squads as the men absorbed a straight-sets defeat from Regis Marie College (RMC), 0 – 3, while the women stretched their run to two consecutive victories after sweeping Villagers Montessori College (VMC), 3 – 0, in the second season of the University and Colleges Premier League (UCPL)  on January 30.

Kicking off the fourth game of the day in the UCPL, the HAU men’s volleyball team carried its momentum but was outplayed by RMC in the opening set, 21 – 25, at the Valenzuela Sports Complex.

Attempting to rally, HAU struggled to keep pace with RMC’s relentless offense, which led to a straight-set defeat, 19 – 25 and 23 – 25.

Redemption came swiftly for the Lady Golden Guardians, who set the tone from the outset against Villagers Montessori College en route to a straight-set victory, 25 – 15, 25 – 20, 25 – 20.

Sarah Angela Grace Faustino was named Player of the Game after spearheading HAU’s offense with decisive hits that repeatedly broke through the Villagers’ wall while her defensive contributions kept the Lady Golden Guardians firmly in control throughout the match.

Current standings show HAU men with a 1 – 3 win-loss record and seven points, while the women sit at 4 – 1 with 12 points in the volleyball category.
