Following the July 28 incident, the HAU Student Government (HAUSG) University Senate adopted two resolutions during an emergency plenary session urging responsible online conduct among Angelites and calling for greater administrative transparency, July 30.

Led by Senate President Pro Tempore Senator Alicia Abby Ann Ang, the second reading for Resolution No. 6, S. 2026 commenced and was sponsored by Senator Sedrick Tamayo, the chair of the Committee on Data Privacy and Technology.

The resolution pushed for a more responsible social media usage anchored in the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, citing the public Facebook group “Holy Angels University” where the practice of posting identification cards, name-dropping, and spreading of speculative rumors have taken place.

Tamayo encouraged students to raise concerns through official university channels, including the Student Help Desk, their respective College Student Councils, and the University Campus Security Office, instead of posting them in the Facebook group.

“Online freedom must be exercised responsibly for the common good,” Tamayo said, urging Angelites to refrain from participating in unregulated social media platforms.

Subsequently, the Senate conducted the second reading of Resolution No. 9, S. 2026, which addressed the July 28 incident, extended condolences to the victim’s family and other affected persons, and called for administrative action to prevent similar incidents.

Sections 2 and 3 differentiated data that students are privileged to access and disseminate as public information and what is considered as “Sensitive Personal Information,” in line with the Data Privacy Act of 2012.

Furthermore, the resolution called on the University Administration, Office of Student Affairs (OSA), and University Campus Security Office to disclose necessary information on campus safety measures and emergency response protocols.

It also urged the review of standard security and medical procedures, as well as the provision of mental health support across departments.

Section 4 of the resolution also urged the student body and the rest of HAUSG to refrain from sharing and engaging with unauthorized media, and to report offenses supported with credible evidence.

Both resolutions were adopted following their second readings, with senators present unanimously voting in favor.
