Drawing over 200 blood bags, Angelites participated in the second “Dugong Alay, Dugtong Buhay” blood donation drive held at the Peter G. Nepomuceno (PGN) Building from September 28 to 29.
Organized by the Philippine Society of Medical Technology Students (PHISMETS) HAU Chapter, the two-day initiative set a target of at least 100 donors per day, with the AUF Medical Center (AMC) serving as the partner hospital on the first day and The Medical City Clark (TMCC) on the second.
The drive collected 130 blood bags on Day 1 and 107 as of 5 p.m. on Day 2, reaching at least 237 blood bags in total.
PHISMETS-HAU President Alleyson Gonzales attributed the higher turnout to the participation of repeat donors and increased promotional efforts for the September drive.
“Ngayong September is our second blood donation drive for this school year, so, may mga repeating donors from June and mas madami naging promotional materials for this blood donation drive,” Gonzales said.
The organization collected 198 blood bags during its first blood drive in June, which was held in partnership with Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital (JBLMGH).
Gonzales said the June initiative was conducted at the beginning of the school year, while the September drive benefited from increased awareness among the HAU community, allowing PHISMETS-HAU, with two partner hospitals, to meet its target of at least 100 successful donors per day and provide more opportunities for the community to donate blood.
