A spark blinking in and out of sight
Within me, it’s waiting to burst alight
A fickle pinhole that longs to shine
What do I do with this light of mine?
This light for so long I have repressed
Within layers of shame it has regressed
No radiance must flare in this howling abyss
Lest I disturb the peaceful and ignorant bliss
Why bother gleam in a world unforgiving
This pathetic speck not even worth admiring
It probably won’t be bright enough to see
Why risk revealing a glow so unworthy?
So many others have already come before
Whose brilliance have done all and more
How foolish to think I can ever measure up
With my luminance that can never be enough
But I often can’t help but wonder
Am I alone in hiding my luster?
Each glint its own hidden glimmer
Veering either to vanish or shimmer
Will my dazzling rob them of the spotlight
Or will it allow them time at the limelight
Only one way for me to finally learn
Let this simmering flick finally burn
My iridescence may ultimately prove scarce
I doubt the blaze inside each of us is sparse
Together we can illuminate this void endless
This light of mine will drive away the darkness
